5 Best this week...

Ok, I'm back...throughout the day I've tried to think of the 5 best things that have happened this week and this is what I came up with...

1. Made it through the week without any major drama and goobie hasn't had any falls, or stumbles, woop!

2. Got paid today! yay! Just keep a watchful eye on me because I might go on a pre-birthday shopping craze!

3. Thanks to Fleur de Guerre I found a new skin care regime. She recommended using old school products; Cold Cream and Witch Hazel. I'm two days in, and so far, my skin is welcoming the change! Fleur, if you read this..Thank you doll!

4. I have been able to find some 'me' time late at night. I had forgotten what it was like to just lay on the couch and watch The Golden Girls or read in a quiet house :)

5. I bought myself a pair of cute sling back wedges on Wednesday, a coral colored nail polish yesterday, and a pair of sunglasses which cost me a whopping $7.99; I found them while I bought my lunch at the local deli. I know they are not lavish purchases, but they mean a lot to me because I haven't treated myself to anything 'girlie' lately :)

So there you have it! We'll see what the weekend has in store for me, hopefully nothing but goodness and relaxation. Perhaps a trip to the beach...we'll see!

Wishing you a greeeat weekend!

Try to See it My Way...

Good Morning! Don't know what got into me, but I'm in a Beatles mood this morning and given that I'm still working out some quirks, this song is very apropos..hope you enjoy it too..oh and feel free to sing along if you'd like ;)

p.s. I'll be back later with my 5 best of the week..if I can come up something :)

Try to see it my way,
Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on?
While you see it your way,
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone.

Chorus:

We can work it out,
We can work it out.

Verse #2
Think of what you're saying.
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's all right.
Think of what I'm saying,
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night.

Chorus:
We can work it out,
We can work it out.

Bridge:
Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it's a crime,
So I will ask you once again.

Verse #3
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long.

Chorus:
We can work it out,
We can work it out.

Bridge:
Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend.
I have always thought that it's a crime,
So I will ask you once again.

Verse #4
Try to see it my way,
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong.
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long.

Chorus:
We can work it out,
We can work it out.

Betty Draper Moment...

Yes, I am having a Betty Draper moment today...Seeing that my "5 best of this week" is coming up, I must forewarn you that right now I do not see the light at the end of the tunnel, and cannot or refuse to admit what has been sooo great about this bloody week! Arrgh! Sorry, this electronic sheet is going to be my sounding board today!

While I won't bore you with my whining, I just have to say that the apple of discord is due to my upcoming b-day in two weeks. I really didn't want to make a big deal out of it, I mean after all a gal only turns thirty something once in a lifetime but who cares right? Bah...all I wanted was to take the day off and spend it with my lovies, but I guess that's too much to ask for..turns out I have to give 'advance notice' or I need to 'put it on the calendar' oh well...whatever. I'm over it..eh I'll be over it by the weekend.

But anyway, I figured I needed to divert my attention from my madness, and what better way to do that than to peruse around for some possible gifts to myself! Here's a handful of Vintage reproductions I liked at MOD Retro Indie Clothing

Mad Men Mania

So as I had mentioned in my previous post, my significant other gifted me with the second season of Mad Men, and since it was supposed to be a birthday present I didn't want to open the box until after my birthday, but I gave in to peer pressure and my need to see Don Draper and this past weekend all we did was watch Mad Men, dissecting the episodes as we went along. We didn't watch the last disc; leaving it until the premier date of Season three approaches! and decided to revisit Season Uno, so so far this week Mad Men has taken control over our TV and our lives! So much so, that we are even dreaming about Mad Men!

Oh, the picture above? ah well, thanks to the awesome creative work from Dyna Moe and AMC I was able to Mad Men myself! Pretty neat ey? The one is red is moi! ;)

The 5 Best of This Week...

Wow, I can't believe it's Friday already! Awesome! If only all weeks could fly by as this one..wishful thinking right?

Anyway, I have this annoying headache that has been lingering for the past two days. I've been getting headaches more frequently these days...I think it's a concoction of stress, hormones, lack of sleep, etc..etc...I've tried to avoid taking anything for it until last night but it seems like the 250 mg of Ibuprofen I took wasn't enough to kill the pain..meh, so I reckon I'll give Aleve a chance and see if that'll do the trick. Keep your fingers crossed. Alright, alright,so what's your point you ask? I'm getting to it :)

I read an article this morning "8 ways to be a happier Mom, How to focus on the positive (for you and your child)" and I came across a section that caught my attention, which had to do with being grateful. It touches on how being grateful either by saying something or writing down what you're thankful for every day for two weeks you'll feel a mood boost! So given that I think my headaches have to do with the way I have been feeling, I decided to give this a whirl and see if in fact this will boost my morale!

The doc recommends that you write down 3 best things that happened today, but I figure that I won't be able to find the time to do this (I'm being honest ;P ) so I will extend the list to the 5 best things that happened in the week..so stay tuned while I embark on this experiment..if you're up to it, give it a shot too and keep me posted on how it goes!

So here's my list for the week of July 20th

1. Randomly decided to grill during the week, which turned out to be the best dinner; New York Steaks, Grilled Chicken, Pasta Salad, BBQ beans, and Potato Salad. Fattening I know! but oh so Yumm-O!

2. My significant other surprised me with Season 2 of Mad Men (although I wasn't supposed to know about it, since it was going to be a birthday gift)I thought that was real sweet of him!

3. Sharing a bowl of Rocky Road ice cream with my other half while watching "He's Just Not Into You" even though we swore we'd never watch that movie ;)

4. Watchie Goobie randomly take her dirty diaper to the trash can and throwing it away! LOL, smart little cookie!

The Boy in The Striped Pajamas

My weekends these days usually consist of watching movies I've ordered from Netflix, and this past weekend I received The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I have to admit that I had not watched it when it was first released because I had my reservations about it being the typical Holocaust themed movie, but to my surprise... I've got to say that this is one of the best, hands down, movies I've watched thus far this year. If you haven't seen it, please do so.

Based on the book by John Boyne, this is a touching movie set in World War II, about two little boys Bruno and Shmuel who build a forbidden friendship that is separated by a concentration camp barbed wire fence. It portrays the innocence of children, demonstrating that not even a fence can stop these two young boys from building a friendship that leads them to unexpected devastating consequences.

If you haven't seen the movie, I will not spoil the ending for you, but just be forewarned that it is memorable, and heartbreaking....

Kindle me...

What is with me and lagging on writing these days? I really do mean to write..have a lot on my mind, probably nonsense so find yourself spared the grief of reading my nonsense ;)

Anyway, see that electronic gadget above? Well it has become my new best friend! My Kindle and I have been inseparable since it was given to me as a thank you gift by my boss three weeks ago.

I was a bit skeptical when my boss wanted to raffle one of them at our mixer but then I was intrigued. I thought how convenient is that? an electronic book that weighs ounces, and books are downloaded with a press of a button on your pc or through your kindle via Amazon.com's exclusive portal; Whispernet.

I mean, sure I still love spending hours at Barnes and Noble even though I never can make up my mind as to what book(s) to buy, or I'm schlepping a bunch of them around, or my typical trip, I always end up gravitating towards the same books each time I go and end up taking..nothing at all! but with the Kindle it's different; someone recommends a book to me, or I hear about a certain book and I run a search on the Kindle, and Voila! it's there! I get to 'sample' a few chapters to see if the book is to my liking...no strings attached..and if I decide to go with a particular book, I can purchase it right there and then.

The cost you ask? Well, I'd say they are 10-20% less than if you were to buy them at the bookstore and there aren't any electronic transfer fees involved. And there is also a site called Feedbooks where you can download e-books for F-R-E-E! Their collection is not as vast as Amazon's, but they've got a good collection nonetheless. And you can also subscribe to your favorite newspaper, magazine or blog and download it to your Kindle too.

You know what else is neat? The fact that you can make notes, or highlight a particular passage in the book. You can also 'bookmark' and look up the meaning of unfamiliar words in the incorporated dictionary! You no longer need to run to your local dictionary or have a dictionary next to you when you're reading your book. Too lazy or too tired to actually read? No worries the Kindle has a 'read to me' feature, and you can choose between the sexy voiced male, or the sultry voiced female ;) oh, and you don't have to worry about charging your E-book every day. It goes on about 2 weeks without having to recharge it, and finally it's a space saver! No more clutter, or piles of books on the floor! I love it!

Have I convinced you enough to buy one yet? Sure, it costs a pretty penny, and I wouldn't have been able to splurge on such fancy gadget had it not been given to me, but if it had not been given to me I would have saved my nickles and dimes and bought it eventually. If you're a book worm like I am, it's definitely worth every $$, so put it on your wish list!
