A Bit of a Twist on Audrey Friday

Greetings my sweet dahhlings! Happy Friday to you all! I'm running a little late on my posting today, so I thought I'd give Audrey Friday a twist, adding tid bits of exciting news I have to share with you.

First off, thank you soooo very much for those of you who sent me sweet wishes on getting better from the annoying migraine that I couldn't seem to kick off.  Your thoughts, along with overdosing on analgesics, and with the aid of mom's home remedies, helped c'est la vie to the pain!...If there is anything in the world that cripples me, it's those evil agonizing migraines! Oh, and to my demise, I didn't have the needed ingredients I to make myself a Gimlet, but had I, I'm sure that would have done the trick too lol!

I have to say that my day has been quite delightful...why? you ask well for starters as aforementioned, the dreadful migraine is gone! and that is a big plus! then to my surprise, and to add much needed cheeriness and happiness to my heart, on the blog front, I came to discover that I have reached a milestone in bloggity blog followers :) Yes, I have reached the 30 blog follower mark! Wooo hooo! I know..I know... 30 is nothing compared to some of my fellow bloggers who have 100+ (I've a lot to work on), but hey having 30 fellow bloggers who have the slightest interests in my rants and raves means a lot to me, so for my darling followers, thank you oh so very much for sticking around to read the daily musings of this thirty-something mama! ;)

And last, but certainly not at the bit last, I was bestowed with 2 more blog awards from two darling gals  One was from the darling Jessica from Chronically Vintage and the other from another lovely gal Jordie Girl

Jessica bestowed me with her homemade Chronically Fantastic award, and Jordie Girl with my 2nd Over the Top Award . I sincerely thank you! Thank you so very much for thinking of me, for your friendship, and for taking notice of my humble blog! I am humbled, and these awards mean so much to me.  Thank you as well for bringing a much needed smile to my face :)

*presented to me by Jessica at Chronically Vintage*
*presented to me by Jordie Girl*

Oh, but the fun does not stop there, as the tables get to turn, and I get to pass these awards around, so please...do stay tuned for my picks ;)

Since I am in great spirits, and coincidentally I am wearing Black skinny pants, a black top and ballerina shoes (though she's wearing loafers) guess what video I will leave you with? ::chuckling:: If you guessed, Audrey's dance sequence in Funny Face, you guessed right! ;)

It never fails, every time I watch this scene it brings a big smile to my face! She seemed like she was genuinely having  a grand time dancing in this scene!

Have a wonderful, fun-filled weekend dahhhlings!

Fondly yours,

Eye Candy Wednesday

John F. Kennedy Jr
November 25, 1960-July 16, 1999

{Caroline kissing her little brother John John 1961 Palm Beach, FL}

Handsome and dapper John F. Kennedy Jr, nicknamed  "John John" was born on November 25, 1960.  He was the the only son of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and was born just 2 1/2 weeks after his father was elected President. He was an adventurous child, with a keen imagination, born into the most political family of the 20th century.  He and his sister Caroline spent 1000 days in the White House during the time that has become known as "Camelot". Tragically, Camelot ended with his father's death in 1963, which was just three days before his 3rd birthday.  His father's funeral fell on John's third birthday, November 25, 1963 where the historical photograph of John saluting his father's casket was taken that day.

 {November 25, 1963, John John at his father's funeral saluting his casket}

Shortly afterwards, his mother decided to move the family an apartment overlooking Central Park in New York, in order to pursue a more conventional life away from the limelight of the media. It is said that both children were  raised without the limos and hotel rooms that many pictured him living in, and rather John John is quoted saying 'I always took the bus, I always took the subways' 'I thank my mother for that'. Kennedy

Sadly tragedy struck the family again...when John John was six, his uncle Robert Kennedy who had served as a father figure to him and sister Caroline, was assassinated at the once famous Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles while running for President.

John attended New York City's Collegiate School for Boys and graduated from the elite Phillips Academy in Andover, and unlike many of the Kennedy men who attended Harvard, John broke the tradition and went to Brown University, graduating in 1983.  Thereafter, John appeared to be floundering a bit, having no particular direction in life. He tried acting in the theater, traveled a lot, and helped his mother with her urban improvement charity. He drifted, studying at the University of Delhi, working for the New York City business development office.

Kennedy then enrolled in New York University's Law School( a move many now say was motivated by Jackie's wishes but his heart was never in it) and as an adult Kennedy studied law though he failed the bar exam twice, prompting the tabloids to name him "The hunk who flunked".  In the meanwhile, he worked as a prosecutor for a few years in the Manhattan District Attorney's office. Kennedy passed the bar exam on the third try. However, he resigned from the Manhattan DA's office in the mid 1990s, having won all six cases he prosecuted.

After his mother's death on May 19, 1994, John and sister Caroline spent several months after her death settling her estate, estimated at $200 million. It was a very hard time for both siblings. Also, during that time, however John decided to avoid politics and followed his own path venturing out as a magazine publisher launching George magazine in 1995, a personality themed political journal named after George Washington, the nation's first president. "Instead of writing about the highest - grossing film, we'll write about the best campaign ad," Kennedy was quoted as having said by the Boston Globe. For Kennedy, it meant political involvement without the downside of running for office.

On September 21, 1996, he married Carolyn Bessette (1966–1999) whom the media called her "Camelot's new Queen" photographers and writers chased, comparing her to her late mother in law Jackie.  They wed in a private ceremony on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia. It was one of the few major events in his life during which he managed to avoid publicity. He and his wife appeared to be a happy couple as they made their home in New York. The little boy America had come to love, the son of a slain president, had achieved the American Dream.

On Friday, July 16, 1999, Kennedy flew Carolyn, and her sister Lauren Bessette, from Essex County airport in Fairfield, New Jersey, to Cape Cod for a family wedding at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport. They never made it. Kennedy's plane, a single engine, six seat Piper Saratoga II HP, got lost off the coast off Martha's Vineyard.  What the young Kennedy could have done with his life will never be known, but it is certain that he lived a full life until his untimely death.

So next time you see a penny along your way
don't hesitate... pick it up
for you may have lose your luck that day!

It's Friday the Thirteenth!!!

Happy Friday the 13th Dahhlings! I personally am not superstitious about the number 13, as I was born on the 13th and have had quite a few birthday's which have fallen on a Friday the 13th, but for Paraskevidekatriaphobics ( term used to describe people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13) Friday the 13th brings on morbid and sometimes irrational fear!! ooooooooh!!!!

Here are some some popular and interesting facts about Friday the 13th...did you know that...
  • More than 80 percent of high-rises lack a 13th floor.
  • Many airports skip the 13th gate.
  • Airplanes have no 13th aisle.
  • Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13.
  • Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery.
  • On streets in Florence, Italy, the house between number 12 and 14 is addressed as 12 and a half.
  • Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue
  • In France, socialites known as the quatorziens (fourteeners) once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate.
  • Many say the No. 13 pointed to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13.
and here are some scary, yet scintillating facts about Friday the 13th...
  •  In a traditional hangman's noose there are 13 twists of the rope and 13 steps to the gallows.
  • Many buildings don't count their 13th floors. You'll see on their elevators that the numbers skip from 12 to 14.
  • There is no 13th Avenue in San Francisco, instead Funston Avenue is between 12th and 14th Avenues.
  • In Formula 1 racing, there is no car with the number 13. The number has been removed after two drivers were killed in crashes, both driving cars numbered 13.
  • Killers Charles Manson, Saddam Hussein, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Theodore Bundy, and Jack The Ripper each have 13 letters in their names.
And lastly, these folks weren't so lucky on Friday the 13th...
  • Tupac Shakur was shot and killed in Las Vegas on a Friday the 13th.
  • Al Capone was sentenced to prison on a Friday the 13th.
  • Benny Goodman, the King of Swing, died on a Friday the 13th.
  • Hubert Humphrey, the 38th president of the United States, died on a Friday the 13th.

I wish you all a lucky, fun filled Friday the 13th!

Thirsty Thursdays with Miss Go Lightly

Good afternoon dahhlings, Miss Go Lightly is here to quench your Thursday thirst with a tasty tropical all time favorite libation of mine; the Mai Tai, (which means 'good' in Tahitian) specifically Trader Vics Mai Tai recipe. After all, he is the inventor of this yummy Polynesian refreshment!

The original Trader Vic formula:

1oz Jamaican rum (Appleton Estate is good)
1oz Martinique rum (Rhum St. James is good)
1/2 oz orange curacao (not the blue stuff)
1/4 oz Orgeat syrup (not creme de almond)
1/4 oz sugar syrup (and Vic puts a little vanilla in his)
the juice of one small lime (3/4 oz approx.)

Shake and pour into and old fashioned glass full of crushed ice. Garnish with pineapple wedge, cherry, and mint.

Cheers!

Everything Counts...

Happy Thursday Dahhlings!I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday and that today is even better since we're only one day away from the weekend! Yay! My hopes of leaving early yesterday didn't come true as we had some unexpected fires to put out in the office, so I was left to guard the Fort until the end of the day..oh well!
Today I woke up humming Everything Counts, from one of my favorite 80s "Nu Wave" bands; Depeche Mode..guess my subconscious is trying to reawaken my penchant for 80s music LOL !so again I had to listen to the song in its entirety and of course why wouldn't I want to watch and hear a young, handsome,Dave Gahan

He and the rest of the band were too adorable! Ah the 80s!

Have a wonderful day dahhhlings, and stay posted for Thirsty Thursdays with Miss Go Lightly. I've got a yummy, tropical concoction in the works for you!

Eye Candy Wednesday

Montgomery Clift, best known as "Monty" was a dedicated actor who exhausted himself both emotionally and physically with the depth of his characterizations. He was a handsome and gifted actor who was, sadly an isolated and tortured, closeted gay man who used drugs and alcohol to escape his pain, which later contributed to his death.

Monty was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on October 17, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the son of a wealthy stockbroker who spent most of his time working in New York, leaving Clift, his twin sister Roberta, and his older brother Brooks in the care of their overbearing mother.

An upper-class childhood filled with lengthy holidays to Europe and the Bahamas ended suddenly with the stock market crash of 1929, forcing the family to move to a small house in Sarasota, Florida. It was there that Clift discovered the theater in a local teen acting club.

Much of Monty's adult life was spent in what appears to be a self-inflicted downward spiral, his addictions and all the harm they did him physically, professionally and in terms of his friendships.

Some have argued that his sexuality held the key, that in an age where homosexuality was still considered a mental illness and many gay people lived in painful closets, Monty couldn't come to terms with his preference.

By the late 50s Monty's growing erratic behaviour (he was caught running naked through hotels and streets), his drinking and drug-taking had warned a lot of people off - both friends and film-makers, producers and directors avoided him because of the problems he caused on set. But Elizabeth Taylor remained a loyal friend and they saw each other as often as they could, speaking regularly on the phone. She got him his next role using her star power - in the film version of Tennesse Williams' play Suddenly Last Summer. Monty played a brain surgeon and in truth it was one of the low-points of his career. He appeared to drift through the role, visibly shaking, and was drinking heavily during the shoot. Director Joe Mankiewicz and producer Sam Spiegel wanted to fire him but Taylor and co-star Katharine Hepburn  threatened to quit if they did. Hepburn tried to talk him through his alcoholism but Monty appeared unwilling to listen.

He fell off the wagon in time for his next picture, The Misfits, in which he starred opposite Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe as one of three cowboys.  It is said that that director John Huston feared that Monty would cause problems on set, but in reality it was Monroe who proved the greatest problem for director John Huston. Her marriage to the film's author Arthur Miller was falling apart and her own addictions were tormenting her, forcing shooting to be suspended. Her scenes with Monty were often marked by continuing retakes as they battled to remember their lines but his performance as Perce is one of the great ones of his career - a man with physical and mental scars thanks to his life in the rodeo, a mother he cannot tear himself away from and a father who has disappointed him. Perhaps it was so good because there was so much of himself in the character.

He was in a downward spiral. Some wondered why his therapist, had not helped him more with his addictions and seemed to fight their attempts to get him into hospital to dry out. There were his health problems too - he had his cataracts to worry about, the long-term effects of the crash and a long-undiagnosed hypothyroid condition which had affected his balance and co-ordination. He would later suffer from arthritis. But most of his problems seemed to be mental.

Eventually, Monty bought a brownstone in Manhattan. His new home was a four-story building with seven rooms, six fireplaces, six baths, and a huge garden where he lived with his personal secretary, Lorenzo James.

On Monday, July 22, 1966, Monty spent the day closed off in his bedroom. He and his secretary barely exchanged a word. At one in the morning, Lorenzo came up to the bedroom to say goodnight. The Misfits was showing on television that night, and Lorenzo asked Monty if he wanted to watch it. "Absolutely NOT!" were the last words anyone heard Montgomery Clift say.

At six the next morning, Tuesday the 23rd, Lorenzo went to wake him. The bedroom door was locked. He tried to break it down, to no avail. He finally ran down to the garden, and climbed up a ladder into the bedroom window. He found Monty lying face up in bed, naked, but wearing glasses. His fists were clenched.
Lorenzo phoned the doctor to examine the body. After declaring Monty dead, he was taken to the City Morgue where an autopsy was performed.  Monty was dead at the age of 45.  It was reported that the official cause of death was found as "occlusive coronary artery disease", but in reality it was from years of alcohol and drug abuse. " His death was called the longest suicide in history by famed acting teacher, Robert Lewis.

Call me morbid, call me pale..

Good Morning dahhlings, and Happy Wednesday to you all! If you're one of the lucky ones who got Veteran's Day off, I'm jealous! ;) I however,  had to come to work...boo! but it seems like it will be a slow day here at the office which is fantastic, because it will spare me some time to study for a quiz I'm scheduled to take tonight in class, and of course will allow me to also bloggity blog away! If the boss is in a good mood, maybe he'll let me skedaddle out of here early! ::keeping fingers crossed::

So...as you can see, I have once again remodeled my page. Something was kooky with the other background so I gave up on it, and decided to go with something more 'girly', and not so dark and 'mysterious'! I forewarn you though...don't be surprised if you see another background change in the near future!

At any rate, the point of this post was to wish you a wonderful Wednesday, and I hope the week is treating you well thus far. Before I move along, I leave you with a darling video I found on You Tube of The Smiths, Half a Person. I woke up with the song in my head, so when I got here, I wanted to listen to it, and wanted to watch a video to go along with it..the video features clips from a short 1947 education film Shy Guy featuring a very young Dick York.

I thought the video fit like a 'Hand in Glove' hope you enjoy it :)

Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy

Since today is Veteran's Day, I was thinking of a song or poem I could post in honor of our soldiers who were in the forefront serving our country with their lives to protect us, and I thought..ah yes, I will post the Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy sung by one of the most loved, and remembered sister singing groups; The Andrew Sisters!

These three darling dames; Patty, Maxene, and Laverne are remembered for their music, rich in sweetness and optimism, the Andrews Sisters were loved by the many troops they tirelessly entertained during World War II whose  fame peaked during World War II. Nicknamed “America’s Wartime Sweethearts,” they became great favorites of American troops overseas, performing in USO (United Service Organizations) shows.

In honor of Veteran's Day please remember to wear a red poppy for those who sacrificed their lives for us...

Happy 40th!

It was exactly 40 years ago today, that Sesame Street; one of the most watched educational children's television show made it's debut on PBS.  And although, it has gone through some changes, its popularity remains strong among children and parents as well.  You have to admit that Sesame Street is just a genuinely good kids show!

I was just over at You Tube watching some older clips of Sesame Street, and I started reminiscing about how fun that show was! My favorites in the show  Count Von Count  , Oscar the Grouch, Count Von Count (his laugh is classic!) and the odd 'funny' roomies, Bert and Ernie

Who were your favorite Sesame Street characters? and what memories do you have watching Sesame Street as a kid?

Remember this song?

Good ol' Bert and Ernie!

Scarlet Heavenly Bliss!

Since we were gallivanting Downtown Los Angeles yesterday afternoon with the mister and baby, we decided to finally scope out the infamous Nickel Diner for a late lunch. The Nickel is known for their 'twist' on the typical diner food (Burgers, Sandwiches, Soups, etc) but the icing on the cake I think is their desserts! Mama Mia! See that picture above? Well that is scarlet heavenly bliss melt in your mouth yumminess! It Nickel's take on Red Velvet Cake, and it was absolutely delicious! That's got to be thee BEST velvet cake I've ever had. Sure, everyone and their momma has a velvet cake or cupcake these days but crème de la crème is the "Perle Croquantes" (those little dark dots you see in the filling) which reminded me of the chocolate pearls in a  Nestle Crunch bar!

But the sinfulness doesn't stop with the Red Velvet Cake, they've got an array of goodies to satisfy your sweet tooth like the Peanut Butter Potato Chip cake and Peanut Butter Potato Chip Cupcake

and the  Bettie Page cheesecake with cherries...

I'm not a big sweet tooth, but by golly, I think I've found my weakness and I just might convert to sweet toothness thanks to the Nickel!
