Thirsty Thursdays with Miss Go Lightly

Well hello there dahlings! Won't you please join me for a drink this Thursday evening? Given that the weather is a bit "frightful" out there, and since we are in holiday mode, I thought that this Winter Wonderland Martini would fit like a hand in glove.

"Walking in a Winter Wonderland" may have a whole new meaning when paired with this cocktail. You just might be inspired to get frisky in the snow!

Ingredients:

2 oz Van Gogh Vanilla Vodka

1 oz White crème de cacao

2 oz White chocolate liqueur

1 oz Cream

½ Teaspoon of coconut flakes

1 White chocolate wafer stick

Directions:

Add the vanilla vodka, white chocolate liqueur, crème de cacao and cream into a shaker and shake over ice. Strain martini into a martini glass and add half a teaspoon of coconut flakes. Stir martini gently with white chocolate wafer stick to create a blizzard!

Silver and Gold...

Good Wednesday morning to you dahlings! I know I've been a bad blogger these past weeks, but know that I am still in the background blog hopping ;) and reading your wonderful posts! As you know I've been on a roller coaster ride this past month..., and well.. I am still trying and hopeful that things and life will get better so please keep your fingers crossed for me! :)

Anyhow, I hope that all of you have the Christmas mojo and that you are all staying warm and cozy where ever you may be! and since we're in the holiday spirit, I am sure most of you will remember the classic Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer movie? That movie has always held a special part of my heart, and I have to watch it every year. It makes me feel like a 5 year old all over again and it makes me feel very nostalgic...yes, the animation might seem cheesy or 'lame' to some of the kids nowadays, but this movie is a prime example of how everything back then was so simple, but yet as kids you were captivated by it's simplicity! Ah the good ol days!

Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice

Happy Thursday dahlings! As you may know, I am a huuuuge Morrissey fan and will jump at any opportunity to see him... so for those of you who fancy the Mozzer, I would like to share a clip from last night's George Lopez's show where Moz closes the show with his performance of Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice.

Unfortunately, I wasn't one of the lucky ones to win a pair of tickets to the show (or tickets to any of his L.A shows for that matter) ::sighs::  :( so... this is the closest I was able to get to the Mozzer! Even at 50, he is still adorable! Viva Moz!

Precious

I had been a bit hesitant on watching Precious.. when it was first released for a few reasons: first because my co-worker had already spoiled it for me, secondly because I didn't think it would match up to the hype it was given, and most importantly because I wasn't sure that I could handle the gruesomeness in it.  But given that there was nothing that really caught my attention at the theater this weekend, I decided to watch it... and while I can't classify it as a 'great' movie because that is not the category I would place it in, it was a great depiction of  the sometimes overlooked abuse that exists in our humanity, and it depicts the suffering and hardships that some abused children are sadly and unfortunately succumbed to. 

Precious is based on the novel Push by Sapphire and executive-produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, who came on board after its screening at Sundance. The film is set in late 80s Harlem, where 16-year-old Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe) is facing more hardships than it seems one person should ever endure. Her mother Mary (Mo'Nique) physically and emotionally abuses her and she's pregnant by her drug addict father for the second time. She's illiterate and mostly quiet (at first), but has an elaborate inner life the film portrays in fantasy sequences. When Precious is threatened with expulsion because she's pregnant she's offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school. Her new teacher, Blu Rain (Paula Patton), and Mrs. Weiss (Mariah Carey), a social worker, help Precious begin to deal with the abuse she's suffering.

 

 

and that is all I am going to tell you about Precious... If you decide to watch it, I would recommend not reading too much into it, watch it as it is, putting any  preconceived  notions of the book, or movie aside..and have a box of tissues handy...Precious was poignant, very raw, and horrific at times..it demonstrates humanity stripped down to its worst moments flashing you behind locked doors, but it is also humanity lifted to its best moments of perseverance, resilience, hope, and faith.
