So I've lost 11 more readers...hey, I would dump me too! I know I've been very MIA but so much has been happening lately, and well who knows when or if I will revisit true blogging again. But to those of you who still stop by my page, thank you :)

In more recent events; five days ago, my co-worker/friend passed away, and her passing has immensely made an impact on all of us at work (we're a small group)and I personally am having a very difficult time accepting and realizing that she is gone.

Her name is Taliya Tandelier Nelson, born on March 3, 1979 from St. Louis, Missouri. She moved to California four years ago with big dreams for herself and managed to accomplish during her short stay here. She was a very independent gal, with a charm unlike any other person I've ever met. Her naivete was the cutest. Things that you and I take for granted, say like going to brunch on Sunday, was a whole new experience for her. She was so full of life, and wanted to experience so many things, but sadly that life was snipped short this past Sunday, when she lost her battle. It makes me terribly sad, and angry that her life was cut short in a matter of two weeks. How can someone so young, and so full of life, and full of dreams just be gone forever?

I've been so out of the loop for so long dear readers that I just found out that the talented, husky voiced Oscar winning Patricia Neal passed away on August 8th, 2010 at the age of 84. TCM is hosting a tribute in honor of the late Neal this week, so be sure to tune in and see this extraordinary woman in some of her memorable roles. She had quite the extensive resume, working opposite some of the most well known actors in the industry including Gary Cooper, John Wayne, and Paul Newman.

Neal was born January 20, 1926 in Kentucky and named Patsy Louise. A name that soon got a revamp once she entered the business. She began her career at the age of 21 starring opposite Ronald Reagan in the rom-con John Loves Mary. She then went on to star in The Fountainhead with Cooper and eventually Hud, which earned her an Academy Award.

Neal's life was defined by a combination of triumph and tragedy. She endured the death of her first child daughter due to measles and the calamitous injury to her son who was struck in an accident and was brain damaged. Thereafter, she suffered three massive strokes which left her in a coma for three weeks and left her semi-paralyzed and unable to speak. But through it all, she was able to walk and talk again with the help of her husband British writer Roald Dahl, and in 1968 she returned to the screen as the bitter mother in the screen version of Frank Gilroy’s play “The Subject Was Roses.” Once again she was nominated for an Academy Award.

This post is for a courageous little boy; Vince. I have never met him, but have chit chatted with his mama Roxanne regarding her cute, handmade hair bow creations. I know she loves this little handsome boy with all heart heart and soul...and it broke my heart when I found out through a fellow blogger that Vince recently underwent emergency surgery for the removal of a brain tumor, and is now undergoing chemotherapy. It is unbelievably heartbreaking to see that such a sweet little boy could sustain such tribulations at such a young age, but he is doing it! He is such a brave little boy, and I am sure he will fight this battle with all his might alongside his mama, papa, and new little brother, Louie.

I heard about this book while perusing NPR's Arts and Life section earlier today. Someone on their staff had written this article on the book, so naturally I was inclined to read on :) Have any of you out there read this book? Hello...It's Me!

Hello darling readers, yes, it's me! I'm alive :) I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted! I'm so sorry for the Houdini act, but so much has happened since my last post, and I honestly did not have the opportunity or energy to post anything that might have been the least interesting on this blog. I've peeked in a few times to briefly post on my other blog; Mad Men Fever, but other than that I've been offline. I am hoping to post more regularly soon, but please bear with me while I regain my bearings and make my way back into the blogosphere! ;)

How is everyone's Summer going so far? Summer on this side of the woods...well, it hasn't really been Summer...I think that this is the first sunless Summer I've ever experienced in my life here in 'sunny' California. We've only had about a week and a half of typical 'hot' Summer days so far. The rest of the days usually start off gloomy, and when the sun finally makes it's way out, the days turn out to be pretty mild; in the upper 60s, or mid 70s. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoy having mild Summer days, but I also like true Summer days when it's so darn hot you want to spend your days by the pool, or at the beach, drinking ice cold lemonade or freshly brewed iced tea to your heart's content! What do you enjoy doing when it's pipping hot?

Well my dear readers, it's great to be back, and I hope to be here more regularly; posting and catching up on your wonderful blogs! I hope you are all having an enjoyable, fun, and memorable Summer, and that your week is coming to a relaxing end.

I know, I know I am a day late on Audrey Friday! and by half an hour I'd be two days late! I'm so sorry, and apologies for the short post..and well, I'm not supposed to be online, but I needed to take a break from the books because I wanted to let you know that for the next few days I will be on a blog hiatus due to an upcoming final exam next week. I've two papers to write, and stuff to memorize for the exam eeeek! The mister has a final as well, so this weekend will be ~~very eventful~~ as you can tell! Luckily, the grandparents were more than delighted to take Goobie of our hands for the day, which has allowed us to focus and really study! but anywho, I found this fantastic illustration of Audrey yesterday which I want to share with you... Happy Birthday to my better half! Yes, his birthday is exactly a week after Goobie's. He had hoped that she had been born on his birthday, but she decided she wanted out a week before! Boy, this month leaves me scrapping for change in my couches! but it's all worth it! ;)

I've Come to Wish You an Unhappy (Belated) Birthday!

What kind of Morrissey fan am I?! I completely and utterly forgot that Saturday was the Mozzer's 51st birthday! It wasn't until my friend Jimmy comes up to me on Saturday during Goobie's birthday party, "hey aren't you going to play some Morrissey or The Smiths today"? and I said "are you crazy? I don't want the guests or the kids to get depressed during the party!", he laughed and said, 'well I just thought that being that it is Morrissey's birthday today, and that you're a die hard fan, you'd be playing at least some of the cheerier Smiths songs', and then it hit me! I thought, oh crap! I forgot his birthday! How dare I? so I ran to my iPod, and went through my Smiths and Morrissey playlists, and played the happiest songs I could find!

My guilt was assuaged for a bit, but it came back to haunt me...it wasn't fair that I gave everyone else but Moz a birthday tribute post! The nerve of me! So...although I am four days late on wishing The Charming Man an unhappy birthday, here is my birthday post in honor of my all time favorite songwriter, lyricist, and crooner, whose morose, yet witty lyrics never fail to make me chuckle, smile, and yes, sometimes brings me to tears. Steven Patrick Morrissey was born on May 22, 1959, in Manchester, England. Son of Peter, a night security guard, and Elizabeth, a librarian, Morrissey recalls his childhood as being morbid. His parents divorced when he was 17. Morrissey spent his days reading, writing pages of poetry, and listening to music. During an interview with Spin Magazine in the 90s, he said "The power of the written word really stung me, and I was also entirely immersed in popular music [Actor James Dean and nineteenth-century Irish wit Oscar Wilde] were the only two companions I had as a distraught teenager. Every line that Wilde ever wrote affected me so enormously. And James Dean's lifestyle was always terribly important. It was almost as if I knew these people quite intimately and they provided quite a refuge from everyday slovenly life," he revealed to Rolling Stone 's Henke. Morrissey also found refuge in the feminist writings of Susan Brownmiller and Molly Haskell, as well as the "terribly gloomy" and "terribly embittered" British novelist Charles Dickens. Where music was concerned, Morrissey lost himself in mid-1960s British pop hits and later, the androgynous glitter rock of the New York Dolls and David Bowie.

Morrissey left school at 17. Jobs as civil-service clerk, hospital porter, and record-store salesman did not interest him past the first paycheck. It was guitarist Johnny Marr's 1982 invitation to join a band that finally got him out of the house. Within months, the Smiths burst onto the British music scene.

The Smiths released six studio albums from 1983 to 1987 and found critical acclaim in both their native England and the US. They never broke into the mainstream in the US, though they became college radio legends, mainly due to Morrissey's intelligent but often controversial themes. The band broke up in 1987 over a conflict of musical interest between Morrissey and Marr. Morrissey found solo success after The Smiths, achieving a far greater status in the US than The Smiths ever had. Since the 90s he's released sixteen albums which include B Sides. The wide popularity Morrissey holds until this day, is a testament that he will forever remain a powerful music icon for those who hold him dear to their hearts.

The party was a success! Goobie had tons of fun. We had loads of fun too! She was scared of going in the jumper at first, but finally got the courage to go in, and had a blast. Boy, those jumpers really come in handy! I never imagined the endless hours of entertainment it provided for the kiddies :)

Last year, Goobie wasn't able to really enjoy herself at her party, but this year, she was unstoppable. It was a long day of playing hostess and running around after Goobie, so you'll have to pardon the last picture. My make-up was melting at that point lol. After hours and hours of labor pains, you finally decided you wanted out... you arrived into our lives at 9:20pm on Monday May 20, 2008, a night when a very special bond began; a bond which will last a lifetime.... Since that fateful Spring evening, we have made many memories, and have shared many moments which I will never forget...you have brought immense joy into our lives... so, as always thank you for being in our lives! As an actress she was noted for her brisk upper-class New England accent and tomboyish beauty. Possessing a distinctive speech pattern and an abundance of quirky mannerisms, she earned unqualified praise from her admirers and unmerciful criticism from her detractors. Unabashedly outspoken and iconoclastic, she did as she pleased, refusing to grant interviews, and was noted for openly clashing with her more experienced coworkers whenever they failed to meet her standards.

She played sharp-witted, sophisticated women with an ease that suggested that there was a thin line between the movie role and the off-screen personality. The romantic comedy The Philadelphia Story(1959) and the screwball classic Bringing Up Baby (1938) were among her best, most typical roles. He and Miss Hepburn never married (Tracy was Roman Catholic and would not divorce his wife) but they lived together for 27 years, until his death in 1967, and made nine films together which include Adam's Rib (1949) and Pat and Mike (1952).

It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico, and especially in U.S. cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.

And that my darlings, concludes your history lesson for today ;) now... go out there and have that tasty margarita...and have one for me too, as I will not be able to partake in the festivities tonight due to a my weekly school commitment... but it's mighty alright...as I have a date with Bogie...on the screen that is... we're watching Casablanca ;)

Happy Birthday Daahling Audrey!!

Today would have marked Audrey's 81st Birthday! Audrey Hepburn was born in Belgium on May 4, 1929. This amazing, beautiful woman went on to become an Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy award winning actress, starring in more than 25 films, including the classic and priceless gem that is my all time favorite Audrey movie: Breakfast at Tiffanys, before passing away in 1993. Her spirit lives on through her life’s work with UNICEF. Thank you for all the wonderful memories you have left us with, for being an inspiration to many of us, and for being the lovely YOU! you are forever fondly remembered!

Bettie was the quintessential pin-up, tacked up on walls in military barracks and garages; five decades later, some feminists still hail her as a pioneer of women's liberation. It has been estimated that over 20,000 photographs of Bettie were taken, and new generations of fans still buy copies by the thousands.

On a walk along the beach at Coney Island, an amateur photographer admired the 27-year-old's curvy body and asked her to pose. Nudity didn't bother her, she said, likening it to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Her modeling career took off, and she was the centerfold in the January 1955 issue of then-fledgling Playboy magazine.

In 1951, Bettie fell under the influence of Irving Klaw, a photographer who specialized in S&M. He cut her hair into the dark bangs that became her trademark, and posed her in spiked heels and little else. Bettie began to attain renown as the "Queen of Bondage," known for her bangs, saucy come-hither looks, and controversial sadomasochistic poses. At the time, most of these photos were sold on a lucrative subscription basis, where the customers made specific requests as to the scenes and layouts. She also appeared as a performer in over 50 burlesque films. The photos and films were publicly denounced as perversion. Klaw was later arrested for "conspiracy to distribute obscene material" though the U.S. Mail, and Bettie was called to testify in a private session.

Believing that her days as a pin-up were over, Bettie retreated from public view, later saying she was hounded by federal agents. A move to Southern California in 1979 brought more troubles. She was arrested after an altercation with her landlady. Doctors diagnosed her with acute schizophrenia, and she spent 20 months in a state mental hospital in San Bernardino, following by being placed under state supervision for eight years.

Her mysterious disappearance from the public eye only fueled the public's fascination. In fact, for two decades no one was sure where she was, or if she was still alive. She resurfaced in the 1990s after being tracked down for a documentary. She occasionally granted interviews and sold autographs, but refused to allow her picture to be taken in her old age. In a 1993 telephone interview, she told a reporter that she was "penniless and infamous." She later hired a law firm to help her recoup some of the profits being made with her likeness. She spent her final years living in Los Angeles with her brother. After a three-week battle with pneumonia, she suffered a fatal heart attack in December 2008 at the age of 85.

This morning I was bestowed with what I think is one of the best blog awards ever; The Circle of Friend's Award, given to me by my darling sweet friend Jessica at Chronically Vintage !

After reading her post, I started reflecting on my blogging days and to my surprise, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that I've already reached 200+ posts!. I don't think I've ever written that much lol.

It's a wonderful feeling to know that on the days when I am attacked by the mean reds or the blues, and feel disconnected with the outside world, or just any day, I can seek solace in the fantastic blogosphere which I became part of a little over year ago. I am extremely thankful and lucky to have found such creative, insightful, sweet, and caring individuals in the blog realm. Blogging has become a much needed outlet for me. It has allowed me to write about the things I love; the things that pull at my heart strings, and the things that push my rusty old buttons ;)

Oh dear, I'm so very late with Audrey Friday's post! I'm so very sorry dahlings. I've a confession to make as to why I didn't post yesterday...and why my posts have been sporadic, and perhaps lacking substance, boring at times wouldn't you say? well... the truth is I've a case of the "mean reds" and they have been getting the best of me lately...but I am trying my hardest to fight them off and come to terms with the hullabaloo of these darn mean reds! Anyhow, enough of my ranting..(thanks for hanging in there with me) and onto Audrey :)

On Wednesday night, we watched Gone with the Wind(1939) in class and most of the students in the class are either straight out of High School or in their early twenties, so of course for the most part you heard a lot of sighing and what not because they were about to sit in their seats watching an 'old' movie for almost 3 hours, but an hour an a half later, when we reached the intermission, I noticed that their attitude had changed. They were actually willing to give up our ten minute break in order to continue watching the remainder of the movie. I overheard comments on how they were really liking the movie, and how they couldn't wait to see what was to unfold after the intermission, and I thought... my oh my see what happens for judging a book by its cover?!

I had already seen Gone with the Wind years back so I knew what to expect, but I've got to admit that I could relate to their attitude toward the movie at first as one very lazy Saturday afternoon (pre-baby days) while channel surfing, I stopped at TCM and saw that their feature presentation was Gone with the Wind , and for a few minutes I sat on my couch going back and forth from some other channel back to TCM contemplating on whether or not to give this movie a chance... I thought there is just no way I am going to sit three plus hours on my couch, watching this "period" piece of a movie, but then I thought, well how bad could it be? it's got Clark Cable in it, and the dresses are lovely, and the scenery looks beautiful...and well, heck why not? I've got nowhere to go, no one to see, so alright, let's give it a chance. So I quickly grabbed some snacks, and tuned back to TCM, and sat down on my comfy couch, ready to give this movie a chance and three hours later I was with tissues in hand wiping the tears off my face...

So...what's the point of this whole Gone with the Wind rambling you ask? Well in so many words, it's that if you haven't seen it because you're put off by the length of it, or because it's a period piece, or whatever your reason may be for not watching it yet...I sincerely advise you to watch it. This is truly an epic movie, a poignant, touching story, and I assure you that if you have three hours to spare someday, you won't regret sparing them to watching this wonderful movie.

I don't usually like posting any pictures of myself because eh, I'm just feeling a little on the frumpy side and I don't feel very 'pretty' these days...but... It was taken about a month ago when were home having a tea party in the kitchen. She grabbed the camera, and said 'cheeese' and this is the result of that shot :) The second is of moi, before date night with the mister. Hope I didn't scare you ;)

Last night, we watched "Death Takes a Holiday" (1934) in class, and I absolutely loved it. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you do. It is a romantic fantasy based on a screenplay by James Maxwell Anderson starring Fredric March and Evelyn Venable .

It tells the story of "Death" paying a visit to an aristocratic family and guests for three days, and transforming himself into a mortal. During Death's three day holiday, his quest is to experience what 'life' is all about, but most importantly to find out what Love is, and if it is a game worth playing.

As the story unravels, he falls in love with the beautiful and ever so pensive Grazia. Experiencing what Love is for the first time, Death is left with the decision of whether to take Grazia with him once his time as a mortal has expired.

The story is beautifully acted out, and although it touches on the matter of death; (which I think most of us are taught to fear), as you watch this movie, you will find yourself smiling, and possibly leave you with a different outlook on death in the end.

If the plot sounds familiar to you, you are absolutely right, as a remake of Death Takes a Holiday was made into Meet Joe Black (1998). While the stories are alike in many ways, the ending is different and I think that after watching Death Takes a Holiday, I fancy it more than Meet Joe Black.

I couldn't believe the news this morning when I heard that my childhood crush Corey Haim had died at the young age of 38...but what was even more sad was to hear that he had died of a drug overdose, and that his mother had found him unresponsive early this morning.

He had had an ongoing battle with drugs throughout the years, and it is just so unfortunate to see that the demons he tried to fight off, got the best of him in the end... I pray that he rests in eternal peace now.

Hello Dahlings,

How do you do? Just peeking in to say hello to all of you, hoping that you are all doing marvelously well and that you are having a good week so far. I also would like to thank all of you who sent your sweet get well wishes; they truly meant a lot to me and brought a smile to my face...so thank you so very much once again :)

As far as how I am doing...well.. I am happy to report that I am feeling a lot better than I did last week, but I'm still feeling a little achey and blah... Turns out, I sprained my neck pretty bad, so I ended up being prescribed anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxant meds which have left me feeling a quite loopy!

I am hoping to return posting, once this loopy feeling fades away and I return to my 'normal' self, but in the meanwhile I have a lot of blog hopping to do so be on the look out for a visit from little ol me ;)

I think I might have pulled something or did something to injure myself...(went on a pre-Spring cleaning rampage this past weekend )and have been in an awful amount of pain since then..::sigh:: but I will be back as soon as I feel better :)

So we have finally made it to the end of the week dahlings! It's been an extremely long week for me, so I am most definitely welcoming the weekend. It's supposed to rain this evening through tomorrow, so our plans to take Goobie out might have to be postponed, but we will see. I feel that we haven't been able to take her out as much these days because of the unpredictable weather, but hope that Spring will come soon so that we can do more things outdoors with her. In the meanwhile, we will continue dancing in the kitchen, coloring, and having tea parties indoors :) What do you have planned for the weekend?

Since it's Audrey Friday, I thought I'd share a little Audrey trivia with you today. Hope you enjoy!

Audrey owned a Yorkshire Terrier that she called "Mr. Famous" which she loved very dearly and who appeared with her in a scene in Funny Face. Unfortunately and tragically during the shoot of The Children's Hour, Mr. Famous was run over on Wilshire Boulevard and killed. After the death of Mr. Famous, Mel Ferrer gave Hepburn another Yorkie named Assam of Assam.

Audrey begged to get out of Alfred Hitchcock's No Bail for the Judge because she didn't want to perform the graphic rape scene; that's also because of her recent role in The Nun's Story (1959)

Was briefly considered for the main role in Cleopatra (1963) but the part went to Elizabeth Taylor

Although she was christened, Audrey Kathleen Ruston, her mother Baroness Ella Van Heemstra temporarily changed the her daughter's name from Audrey to Edda during the war, feeling that "Audrey" might indicate her British roots too strongly.

Audrey's film career began in 1948 with her role as an airline stewardess in Nederlands in 7 lessen and ended 41 years later in 1989, with her last role in the movie Always with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter.

Henry Mancini said of her: "'Moon River' was written for her. No one else had ever understood it so completely. There have been more than a thousand versions of 'Moon River', but hers is inquestionably the greatest".

Because she was a distant relative of King George III of England, Audrey was the distant cousin of Princess Diana of Wales, Prince Rainier of Monaco, and actor Humphrey Bogart

Told People Magazine that she was very self-conscious about her size-10 feet.

I am so sorry about being a day behind on the Vintage Pic of the day post. It's been a busy week thus far, and today is an extremely long day for me, as I have my film class to attend after leaving the grind.

We're scheduled to watch Scarface (1932) tonight. Never seen it...so even though I know my energy level will be reaching its low peak by the time the movie starts, I'm looking forward to watching it. Red Buuulll-A here I come ;)

I had the opportunity to watch this fantastic movie this last Wednesday night during my 1930s/1940s Film class and I absolutely loved it! If you have not seen this wonderful film, I highly recommend you watch it, as I'm sure you will truly enjoy it.

I recently finished reading How To Be Lovely: The Audrey Hepburn way of Life, and if you're not familiar with Audrey, I advise you to do so...she was a beautiful person from all broads of the spectrum, and although she endured the challenges of life itself, womanhood – miscarriages, divorce and the balancing act of career and family, but yet exuded dignity and humility through her successes and failures. She never ceases to amaze me...

The book is a collection of Audrey's life philosophy's; containing some very inspiring quotes from the many interviews she gave throughout her career, and contains beautiful rarely seen pictures of her. This book is a definite keepsake for any Audrey Hepburn fan, or just anyone (that includes the fellas) that seek inspiration. Audrey has always inspired me, but after reading this book, she's inspired me even more so...I've a long way to become as 'lovely' as Audrey was... but one day at a time right? :)

Lately I've been catching up on my classic movies, particularly Hitchcock movies. This past weekend I revisited Rear Window starring one of Hitchcock's favorite lead actors; Jimmy Stewart, and thought I would dedicate Eye Candy Wednesday to him since he remains one of the best remembered performers of the studio era and remains one of my all time favorite actors. Oh, and by the way, if you haven't seen Rear Window..you have to watch it! It's fantastically suspenseful!

Jimmy Stewart had the guy next door ability to pull you in. His “Aww shucks” way of life was just that. he wasn’t acting, that WAS Jimmy Stewart. Born May 20, 1908 (He shared the same birthday as Goobie!), in Indiana, Pennsylvania, James Maitland Stewart was the son of Elizabeth Ruth (née Jackson) and Alexander Maitland Stewart, who owned a hardware store. James, who was to take over the family business attended Princeton University.

President Harry S. Truman once stated that “If Bess and I ever had a son, we would have wanted him to be just like Jimmy Stewart.” One of the best loved actors of his generation within the Hollywood community and with his fans, Jimmy Stewart had the guy next door ability to pull you in. His “Aww shucks” way of life was just that. he wasn’t acting, that WAS Jimmy Stewart.

Some of his romantic liasons early in his career were Ginger Rogers and Norma Shearer. He remained single until the age of 41, marrying former model Gloria Hatrick McLean (1918-1994) on 9 August 1949. As Stewart loved to recount in self-mockery, “I, I, I pitched the big question to her last night and to my surprise she, she, she said yes!”. Stewart adopted her two sons, Michael and Ronald, and together they had twin daughters, Judy and Kelly, on 7 May 1951. They remained devotedly married until her death on 16 February 1994, due to lung cancer.

Stewart died at the age of 89 on 2 July 1997, at his home in Beverly Hills, of cardiac arrest and a pulmonary embolism following a long illness from respiratory problems. He had also suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. His death came just one day after fellow screen legend and The Big Sleepco-star Robert Mitchum had died of lung cancer and emphysema. Stewart is interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.

Among Stewart’s most popular films of the era, some on loan to other studios, are the Academy Award-winning You Can’t Take It with You (1938), with Jean Arthur and Lionel Barrymore; the amusing Vivacious Lady (1938), with Ginger Rogers; Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), also with Jean Arthur; Destry Rides Again (1939), in which Stewart is overshadowed by Marlene Dietrich; The Philadelphia Story (above), opposite Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and Ruth Hussey; and The Shop Around the Corner (1940), with Margaret Sullavan.

Since When Do Pediatricians Give Parenting Advice?

Yesterday I took Goobie for her well baby check up with a new doctor. She had a different pediatrician before but because the commute was just becoming too much so I decided to switch her to Kaiser which is where I go for my medical needs and is only about 8 minutes away from home. Anway, like they say first impressions count and so far not a good one..

He enters the room and introduces himself and doesn't take a moment to interact with Goobie. Strike one! He immediately jumps in and starts questioning the gaps and non existent dosages of vaccinations on her immunization book, and I thought, oh boy here we go! so I thought, rather than going into this whole spiel about why I have chosen not to inoculate Goobie with certain shots anymore, I'll just tell him which ones I would like her to have and when...and thought that he would move right along with the check-up. Instead he started questioning, and judging me about my choices saying that I was putting my child at risk with so many outbreaks especially of the Swine Flu, the flu, and Hepatitis A. I tried to bite my tongue, but I was getting heated so I then had to give him my spiel on my reasonings why, and he kept challenging me and telling me that I was wrong,etc, etc... all the meanwhile Goobie is growing antsy, and I'm thinking can you just shut the hell up and just examine my daughter! (sorry... I'm still a little heated about my experience with that prick of a doctor) so I tried to cut him off and told him politely that I appreciated his thoughts, but could we please move along?

Round 2...while he's examining Goobie, he starts asking me where Goobie sleeps, and I tell him that she's sleeps for a few hours in her crib, and still wakes up during the night, but that we're hoping for some type of relief by switching her to a toddler bed. He immediately says, 'what's the big rush?' ...'if you're scared that she's going to climb out or jump off, that'd be the least of my worries, because in my 20 years of practice, I've never seen a kid get badly hurt'...'besides, getting her into a toddler bed will make things worse because she can get out of the bed, and she'll want to climb in your bed, or walk around in the middle of the night." Ok, seriously who asked your opinion buddy? Yes, I aware that she will be able to get out of the bed, and have already discussed how we will handle the situation with the mister, and no I am not scared she will leap out of her crib. She just doesn't like the darn crib, period! We've struggled with this for almost two years. All the while, Goobie once again is getting really fidgety, and to try distracting her for a bit while Doc/Parenting advisor is going on a tangent...by giving her some crayons. The bastard cuts me off, and says 'no colors right now' could you believe what a jerk he was?

At that point, I had just about had it with him, and asked him if he was going to continue with her exam, and no longer wished to hear him lecture me. So he continues with the exam, but continues talking about the whole vaccination issue saying that he doesn't know where I'm getting my information, or who I'm talking to, etc etc but he thinks I should really consider the risk I am subjecting my child to...so I finally told him again that I thanked him for his concern but again would appreciate him to stop.

He finished the exam, gave Goobie a clean bill of health (though distracted), handed me his card, and said that if I wanted to further discuss the issue about the vaccines to call him because he thought I was making basing my choices on what I read or hear...ok buddy, whatever. I took his card, and crumpled it in my hand and threw it away as I walked out! Seriously, who did this guy think he was? First and last time I take the Goobster to that so called Doctor. And like I mentioned earlier, to make matters worse, besides the exam, he didn't even bother to interact with Goobie!

I can appreciate constructive, unbiased advice from a doctor, but to outright be challenged, judged and made to appear as if I was crazy because I choose to not conform to his way is blatantly wrong! I knew I should have gone with my gut and chosen that other Doctor. What a nightmare...::sigh::

In a 1984 interview Morrissey stated that he chose the name The Smiths "... because it was the most ordinary name" and because he thought that it was "... time that the ordinary folk of the world showed their faces."

If you know me, you know I am and will always be a fan of my absolute favorite, yet sadly and unfortunately non existent; The Smiths. While I was in my preteen years when the band broke up, I was introduced to them during my Sophomore year in High School by a friend of mine.

I remember that my first Smiths album was The Queen is Dead (which I recommend it to be the first to listen to if you've never had a taste of The Smiths) and I was quickly drawn to their musical style, the angelic guitar playing of Johnny Marr, the quirky and mélange of lyrics sang by Morrissey. Cemetry Gates, Frankly Mr. Shankly being the two 'happy' favorites and the sad, melancholy I know it's Over song were on repeat over and over on the good old CD Player.

I was drawn to his unique style, all the while thinking that he didn't have the best signing voice, but his lyrics were fantastic, and being a teen at that time, I felt that Morrissey knew what I was going through and that he wrote some of his lyrics specifically for me ::laughing:: Ah...to be young again huh?

Today marks the 25th anniversary of their 2nd album Meat is Murder, which was the band's surprisingly only number one album (out of 9 albums)in the U.K, so I thought I'd pay them a little tribute :)

Meat is Murder was considered It their most "eclectic" album because of the various styles of musical styles that were incorporated which consisted of funk, rockabilly, ballad, post-punk, dance music, and their signature, alternative rock.

While "How soon is Now" (which was a B side track) is the song that some think 'made' this album, and one that is considered a bonafided track due mostly to the teary and straight-to-the-heart lyrics: "How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human, and I need to be loved. Just like anybody else does." I'd have to say that my favorite song on this album is the overlooked and underrated Well I Wonder. I think that it is one of the most alluring Smiths song, where Morrissey's vocals are beautifully haunting, and feel that the lyrics are very powerfully emotional. " Well I wonder, Do you see me when we pass ?I half die ...Oh ...Please keep me in mind, Please keep me in mind.." Here's a video of the song, if you'd like to listen.

The Ghost of the Hollywood Sign...

The blonde, blue eyed actress was born Lillian Millicent Entwistle, in Port Talbot, Wales in 1908. Her mother died when Peg was very young. Peg’s father decided that they should move to New York and the father found work there in a theater. Peg had another unfortunate incident in her early years. Her father died suddenly one day when he was hit by a truck on Park Avenue. Peg’s brothers were sent to live with their uncle, and Peg struck out on her own as an actress at the age of 17. By 1931, she was in 8 consecutive Broadway shows - that flopped. Hollywood (or course) beckoned, and she came to L.A. She moved in with her Uncle Harold at 2428 Beachwood Drive, in Beachwood Canyon. Just down the hill from the famous "Hollywoodland" sign.

She got a part in a play that included Humphrey Bogart and Billie Burke who later played the good witch in the Wizard of Oz. But the play only ran for a week and a half before closing. She did do other plays but nothing became of it. When she got a part in an RKO film called "Thirteen Women" she thought her luck had turned and this would be the start of something big. Unfortunately, most of Peg's screen time wound up on the cutting room floor. In the brutal Hollywood summer heat of 1932, her once promising career came to a standstill. Her luck had changed, but from bad to worse. She tried for small time parts and went to numerous auditions and casting calls trying to get any acting work that she could. Then her short term contract with RKO ran out and was not renewed. She was on her own and couldn’t find any work even in the theater. Her friends started to desert her and she was broke. She tried to save enough money to go back to New York, but couldn’t even manage train fare.

The beautiful young actress was badly depressed as she sensed her career was done. On the night of September 18, 1932, she told her Uncle Harold that she was going to walk up Beachwood Drive to the drug store, and then to visit friends. Instead she climbed her way up the tough, steep, hill through the brush to the Hollywoodland sign. She took off her coat, folded it neatly, and placed it with her purse at the base of the maintenance ladder which led up the letter H. She then climbed up the ladder to the top of the 50 foot letter "H"and jumped to her death down the hill to the rocks and brush below, dying at the young age of 24.

Peg’s body was discovered two days later in the brush at the base of Mount Lee. Here’s the ironic part. Two days later Pegs uncle opened a letter addressed to Peg from the Beverly Hills Playhouse. It was mailed the day before she jumped. In it was an offer for her to play the lead role in their next play, It would be a role where her character commits suicide in the final act.

In the following years, hikers and later park rangers would report very strange happenings in the area around the Hollywood sign known as Griffith Park. Many people have reported sightings of a woman dressed in 1930’s era clothing who vanishes when approached. She has been described as a very attractive, blond woman, who seems very sad. There are also many cases of people being overwhelmed with the smell of gardenia perfume which was known to be Peg’s favorite perfume.

Known as the ghost of the Hollywood sign, in death Peg Entwistle finally has the fame she sought in life. Her death completely overshadowed any of the merits she may have had as an actress in life.

So last night as I was just about to lay Darko (name I bestowed my laptop with) down to sleep, I logged into my email one last time to see if I had received a response to an e-mail I had sent earlier during the day, but to my dismay nothing. So just as I was about to close Darko I noticed that there was an e-mail notification of new comments for one of my posts. I opened the e-mail, and was pleasantly surprised by a comment from a fellow, and very creative blogger Meredith stating that she had gifted me with a Kreativ Blogger Award! I thought? Moi? I always wanted to learn how to play the violin, but mom couldn't afford to pay for classes, so... in 7th grade while attending a Lutheran private school, my teacher needed a group of people to play the hand bells and since learning how to play the hand bells was included in the tuition, I went for it! I am proud to say I was the only brave girl to volunteer learning to play the bells! It's not as easy as it looks!

4. My voice always get confused with that of a child's voice which works to my benefit when telemarketers call :) They ask "May I speak to your mom or dad" and I respond by telling them that they are out of town and I'll take a message for them lol!

5. I lived in Round Lake Park, IL one Summer and it was the best Summer of my life as a kid. I went to Summer School which was more like Field Trip School because we would go on Field Trips every week! Met some really cool kids, lived within walking distance of the lake, and went swimming almost every day. Best Summer I tell ya!

6. I was privileged to work as an intern at the Los Angeles Times when I was 18 and won a $2,000 scholarship for writing an essay. I don't remember exactly what I had to write about..but I was immensely taken aback when the winner was announced and I was the one chosen by a panel of 5 judges who reviewed 20 other essays submitted by the other interns. I honestly didn't enter the contest with hopes that I would win; I just saw it as an opportunity to challenge myself.

7. I was a freelance make-up artist at one point in my life... After turning down an offer to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia when I worked for EarthLink a few years back, I took advantage of taking some time off work, and pursued one of my dreams which was to become a make-up artist. I learned how to apply different styles of make-up, how to create a variety of hairstyles, and how to create characters, as in creating monsters, and weird looking creatures with prosthetics. It was a blast and I miss it... perhaps someday I'll pick it up again.

So there you have it :) hope I didn't put you to sleep zzzz! Again, congrats to the nominees, and thank you all for being creative little creatures ;)

It is said that it the photo is inscribed with "Bradshaw Studios, Big Springs Tx. It is not dated, but from the way this stylish gal is dressed, I am guessing it was shot sometime in the mid 40s. I searched for Bradshaw Studios in Big Springs and couldn't find anything substantial except that apparently the folks at this photography studio took quite a few pictures of a bombardier school that was located in Big Springs during WWII.
I love everything about this picture, from the gals outfit, the photographer's shadow, the little girl closing her eyes when the shot was taken, the field they are in..it looks like they were all having such a relaxing day out there :)

For those of you darling and kind enough to follow my humble blog, you will probably be surprised to see that I am posting on a weekend. Up until a few days ago, I did not have access to a PC at home, so most of my posts took place during 'working' hours :) but now that I finally have a laptop, and when time permits; meaning when baby is down for a nap, or I get a break from doing a zillion other things! I will try to post a little something :)

I found this darling picture while perusing Flickr. Looks like Aunt Virginia is having a great time drinking Schlitz! Aside from her lovely outfit, look at all the cool things that surround her! I absolutely love this picture, and wish I could have shared a beer with this charming, and blissful looking lady!

While watching a Letter to Three Wives, I was immediately intrigued by the sultry, exotic looking doll I saw on the screen..and yes, I have to agree...she did have the perfect face (aside from Audrey of course :D). Her name was Linda Darnell, born Monetta Eloyse Darnell on October 16, 1923 in Dallas, Texas. One of five children, her father was a postal worker, and her mother encouraged her to model, already recognizing her beauty even at the early age of 12.

By 1934, Linda was modeling clothes for an area department store. Sometimes officials would think that she was 15 or 16 because she looked much older than she was. At age 13, she was appearing with local theater companies. Hollywood scouts, on a routine visit to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, were impressed enough to set up a screen test for her, but they soon discovered she was too young.

They told her to check back in a couple of years or so, which is exactly what she did. Linda used that time to further build up her acting chops through more local theater appearances, returning to California in 1939 to debut in A Hotel For Women. She was all of 16 at the time and became the youngest leading lady in Hollywood history. Her next film was that same year which was one of her very best- Daytime Wife where she starred with Tyrone Power. Film number three, made in 1940, marked her signature hit, Star Dust where Linda rose to heights of stardom. More classic films were produced, such as Blood And Sand, and Rise And Shine. In 1945 Linda played Netta Longdon in Hangover Square, which performed solidly at the box-office. She followed that up with an appearance opposite Lillian Gish in Centennial Summer.

Linda reached the height of her career when she played opposite Cornell Wilde in 1947's Forever AmberA Letter to Three Wives where she survives the famed London fire. Unfortunately, although this film was a huge success Linda didn't feel she had earned the critical acclaim she hoped for. However two years later in the film she achieved both critical acclaim and true stardom. The wonderful script written by the great Joe Mankiewicz began a life long friendship which some think turned into the great love of Linda's life.

Darnell's Fox contract ended in 1952, and she had difficulty finding roles thereafter. She was still only 29, but rapidly descended from a top billing star to a bit-part player, and by the 1960's she was performing in nightclubs for a living, and playing supporting roles in television. Linda's final appearance on the silver screen was in 1965's Black Spurs.

Linda Darnell's life is frequently described as tragic. It has been suggested that she was pushed into the limelight at such an early age by an overly dominating mother. Her rapid ascent into the hall of fame was one that she was never really prepared for, and the stresses and pitfalls of Hollywood took their toll.

Darnell developed a drinking problem that was to dog her for the rest of her life. She was unable to have children, but adopted a daughter named Lola. However it is said that the inability to have children may have been a fact that may well have impacted on her relationships. Linda married and divorced three times, her second and third husbands being Phillip Leibmann and Merle Roye Robertson. Robertson sued for divorce in 1962 – citing Linda's continual drunkenness and neglect of her marital duties.

Linda Darnell perhaps suffered no more tragedy than many other actors and actresses – the stress of the Hollywood lifestyle on her relationships and health was nothing unusual. Her loss of fame in later years must have been hard to bear, and her death was indeed tragic. It is said that Darnell suffered all her life from a fear of death by fire a fact that she spoke of in connection with her performance in Anna and the King of Siam which involved a burning at the stake scene. Whether this fear was a premonition, or a myth perpetrated after her death, cannot be known. Tragically, Darnell died in 1965 of severe burns suffered in a fire at her former secretary's house at the age of 42.

Hello Dahlings! my apologies for the inconsistency in posting the Vintage Pics of the Day these past few days, but I had been at a work related training class and did not have access to the world wide web until today.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, and that you are all doing well :) How is the weather in your neck of the woods. On my end...well, we just go through a week of wonderful, much needed rain, and enjoyed a chilly, yet beautiful sunny weekend. We're told not to put our umbrellas away just yet, because more rain is in the works for tomorrow so I am very excited about that.
